Sir, - In keeping with the current movement to remove eyesores from the Irish panorama, may I suggest that local authorities throughout the country consider enacting by-laws which would prohibit rooftop television aerials and satellite dishes?
Multi-channel reception could be provided by underground coaxial cables which would be made available to each household. With this system in place, local authorities could meter individual household usage to produce sufficient revenue to ensure the financial burden would be shared equally by all viewers.
Granted, the cost of implementing and maintaining this service might seem prohibitive, but I believe the average television viewer would support this measure knowing the tremendous positive impact it would have on our environment.-Yours, etc., Edward D. Rafferty, Grogans Road, Wexford.
