Sir, - As a person who owns a car I object to the proposal that the road tax I pay is used for the upkeep of the water system. The Government has been able to make the decision to use the income from road tax to replace the water charges. What is going to replace the road tax to pay for the upkeep of our roads? They should keep in mind that the taxes already incurred by the car owning public are quite high. This latest tax burden for the motorist will inevitably drive up the cost of running a car and will probably lead to more vocal protests than that water charges ever did. Just in time for the general election!
