Sir, - John Waters claims that Albert Reynolds's technical win in his libel case proved that the Labour Party version of events in November 20th 1994 was incorrect. In his column he said: "The jury found he had not misled the Dail."

This is factually incorrect. It found that The Sunday Times had not proven that Reynolds was a liar. The onus of proof was on the newspaper. Albert Reynolds, like O J Simpson, was under no obligation to prove his innocence. - Yours etc,
