Sir, Further to Douglas McCowen's letter of December 9th in which he talks of the new physics, and matter at the subatomic level altering its behaviour when under observation, may, I add that exploring the outer limits of modern theoretical physics, one discovers that "common sense no longer holds. Ideas of reality are shot with paradoxes, the shape and nature of being refuses to hang together in a logical consistent form, objects shift from particles to waves, space buckles into impossible dimensions, time runs forward and backward, and the very act of observation appears to create, bringing existence out of a cloud of possibilities.
All this and more such as superstring and Kalrya Klein type theories, worm holes etc. (heady stuff) have been made possible for us lay people to understand through the brilliant minds of such people as the physicists Fred Alan Wolf, Michio Kaku and Stephen Hawking (to name a few).
So I would like to add my name, to that of Mr McCowen in asking how long it will take today's, churchmen to take cognisance of what the new physics is telling us, and its certain consequences for "religion" as it now stands. Please no more Galileo Type Inquisitions we haven't 300 years to wait to hear apologies. Would a theologian or a scientist who has read Fred Alan Wols Parallel Universes" and/or Professor Michio Kaku's "Hyperspace" (or their equivalent), respond? Yours, etc., Willbrook Road, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14.
