Madam, – I agree wholeheartedly with PE Ó hAnluain’s suggestion (September 3rd) to scrap the playing of the national anthem at matches in Croke Park and allow the President to relax in her seat before the game. I can sympathise with the players he identifies as giving the impression that they wished “this bloody thing” was over, because that’s exactly how I feel when I hear that awful anachronistic war chant.
