Madam, – I am disgusted at the decision to change the name of Lansdowne Road to the Aviva Stadium. I fully understand the need for sponsorship, and appreciate that €40 million is not to be sniffed at. But I feel there could have been some compromise.
Take, for example, Invesco’s sponsorship of the Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colorado. An initial figure was agreed to change the name to Invesco Field. However, due to the overwhelmingly negative public reaction, a lesser fee was negotiated, and a compromise was reached with the stadium now being known as Invesco Field at Mile High.
I feel a similar agreement could have been reached in this case. - Yours, etc,
