Madam, – It would be appropriate if Dublin City Council would consider changing the name of Archbishop Ryan Park to Mac Giolla Park, Merrion Square, in honour of the recently deceased Tomás Mac Giolla, former councillor and lord mayor of Dublin, whose dedication to the city and its citizens during his lifetime was acknowledged by political colleagues in all parties.

Merrion Square Park was transferred to the city of Dublin in 1974, but only as a result of a campaign by Tomás Mac Giolla and other activists in Dublin to have the park opened up for the general enjoyment of the people of the city, as previously access to the park had been confined to the residents of Merrion Square.

The parks department of Dublin City Council is to be congratulated for its maintenance of this wonderful resource for Dubliners and visitors to the city. – Yours, etc,
