Sir, - Since recently returning from a Christmas break at home in west Clare - where many pleasant hours were spent catching up with old friends also home from corners of the earth - I have been reflecting on some disturbing voices I heard while in Ireland.
I saw in my local paper (Clare Champion, January 8th) that a national organisation against immigration is being formed with the sole purpose of keeping foreigners out of Ireland. I find this not only sad, but extremely disturbing and feel grateful that in none of the countries in which I have lived over the past 15 years have I ever experienced such discrimination.
Is the world-renowned "Cead Mile Failte`' now applicable only to tourists? Have we lost all sense of humanity? - Yours, etc.,
