Madam, – Senator Joe O’Toole has long highlighted the need for reform in the Seanad. However, if he had called for a Seanad session to be held at one of the 14 institutes of technology instead of at the University of Limerick, he could have highlighted the fact that students in the IoT sector (40 per cent of the third-level total), as well as students who attend universities other than the NUI and TCD (10 per cent of the total) cannot vote in Seanad elections.
Needless to say, reform of the Seanad goes beyond the electoral process. – Yours, etc,
