Madam, – The announcement of reform of the Junior cycle is very welcome and long overdue (Home News, April 21st). It is unfortunate that out of the officially recognised 32 subject/teacher associations, only one made a submission to the NCCA. This is mostly likely due to the incredibly odd timing of the launch of the review towards the end of the formal school year in 2010. Most input to the NCCA came via word of mouth and only 15 per cent of input was as a result of direct contact with schools. On the assumption that input from these associations is important, hopefully their absence from the consultation will be considered in the final proposals. – Yours, etc,
