Recycling green waste

Sir, - I refer to the reply from P. Maguire of Dublin Corporation (July 23rd) to the interview with me (Features, July 8th) which referred to a proposed green waste recycling plant at Sean Moore Park, Sandymount.

Lest Mr Maguire is under the impression that it was I who referred to such a plant as "a dump", let me assure him I did not. A green waste re-cycling plant, such as the one in St Anne's Park, is a great idea. But whereas St Anne's has 268 acres, Sean Moore Park has only 15 acres. And, unlike residents on the northside, we are not blessed with such open parkland as Howth Head, Bull Island, Dollymount, the salt marsh and St Anne's Park.

Given the size of Sean Moore Park and the fact that it has four pitches which are used extensively by GAA enthusiasts, we could not have afforded the loss of a hectare for the plant. The proper location for a green waste recycling facility is on the industrial side of the Poolbeg peninsula where much recycling, of concrete and metal, already takes place. - Yours, etc.,

Catherine Cavendish, Sandymount, Dublin 4.
