Madam, - It will undoubtedly come as a shock to your correspondent, Terry McInerney, (March 25th) to learn that there are views (and facts) which are at variance to what he understands.

Provided it is used in a responsible fashion (and there is nothing in Alive! to suggest otherwise), "freedom of expression" is guaranteed under the Irish Constitution.

As I understand it, this is the freedom to express ideas with which one does not agree with, as well as the ideas with which one does agree with.

However, in practice, what is often expressed (and not expressed) has more to do with agreement with those in power, than with anything else.

Ask Amnesty, the Irish Council for Civil Liberties, or the National Union of Journalists, to name but a few, for their definitions.

In the meantime, we are very glad that there are alternative views (and facts) being expressed, such as those by Alive!
