Sir, - In your property supplement (March 2nd) the new owners of the Loreto Convent, Rathfarnham, were described as being undecided about the question of "community use" of the "stunning church".
I appeal to the new owners to retain the chapel for its original purpose - Catholic Christian worship. This chapel has been made sacred by generations of prayer and the celebration of the Eucharist. It is also one of the finest works of Pugin, the greatest of the Gothic Revival architects.
Ireland is fortunate to have among its artistic treasures this wonderful building. It would be a tragedy to use it for any purpose other than the worship of God. Surely the residents of the proposed flats and nursing home will benefit by having such a sublime place of prayer available to them. - Yours, etc.,
Francis C. H. R. Bailey, Killiney, Co Dublin.
