A chara, - I should like to solicit the courtesy of your columns to announce my intention of writing a biography of R.B.D. French (1904-81), a great and distinguished man of letters and an inspirational teacher and tutor as assistant, lecturer, and finally senior lecturer in English at Trinity College (1930-74).
From 1968-74 I had the honour to be one of his junior colleagues, so I can testify from my own experience to his outstanding excellence as a scholar and his humanity towards his colleagues and pupils. He was in every respect a fitting foil to his friend Owen Lancelot Sheehy Skeffington. I should be grateful for whatever information any of your readers can supply to me in this endeavour. - Is mise,
