Sir, - Your report of the use of drugs to treat psychiatric patients (The Irish Times, September 13th) leads me to ask the following questions.
Dr Dermot Walsh, Inspector of Mental Hospitals, seems to do a thorough job. However, what powers does he have to implement change?
How many more psychiatric patients and others must commit suicide before service providers start looking at a more enlightened, holistic approach, like that provided by Cavan/Monaghan? Let us have more open reporting to push psychiatric services into the 21st century. - Yours, etc.,
Eilish Foley, Ballynoran, Charleville, Co Cork.
