Madam, - What planet does the National Competitiveness Council inhabit? A tax on property would affect over a million people, not all of them rich. The yield would be in the region of €200 million, according to the council.
The money, it says, would be used to lower personal taxes and so encourage people into the workforce.
In case the council hasn't noticed, the Republic of Ireland has full employment - hardly a state of affairs that suggests taxation is keeping people away from work. - Yours, etc,
JIM DUNNE, Margaret Place, Dublin 4.
