Promises to keep?

Sir, – The leaders of our two parties in control of our tax money have made plenty of promises: commitments to the voters. Eamon Gilmore has said that if you make an agreement you keep the agreement. Apparently this only applies to the Croke Park agreement.

What about the 80 or more quangos Enda Kenny was to get rid of? What about full disclosure of TD expenses? What about not touching the lower income folks? What about reducing drug cost? What about the over-paid under-work consultants? And on and on. All promises broken or delayed for months to come. Our politicians are in office not just for the financial security for life, but for their need to be in authority, and their promises are made to be broken. How else would we be prone to support them? – Yours, etc,

GERALD ROLF,

Larkhill Road, Sligo.
