A chara, You report today, (July 4th) that Mr Niels Helveg Petersen, the Danish Foreign Minister, is proposing that the EU put economic as well as political pressures on Burma. I fully support this move and would encourage Mr Spring, as chairman of the Council of Ministers, to lend his support.
The members of the SLORC are merely laying for time and using this period of "political pressures to line their pockets. This exceedingly oppressive junta recognises that its days are numbered and that the handing over of power to Aung San Suu Kyi and the National League of Democracy is inevitable.
