Sir, - With regard to the President's decision not to attend the RDS for the Aga Khan Cup presentation, I feel the Taoiseach should have intervened to stress the importance of this international event. I believe the RDS wrote to request her attendance as far back as January 1998.
The President's attendance at an Irish course surely is a personal decision which should not override the need to attend the Horse Show. After all, there is a President's box and all previous President's including De Valera, when he was almost blind, were in attendance to present the Aga Khan Trophy.
Finally, had I realised that President McAleese was likely to make such a decision, I would not have voted for her in the presidency election. - Yours, etc., J. G. P. Power,
Kerry Pike,
Co Cork.
