Sir, A few weeks ago. on my way to the airport. I heard on the radio some criticism of the fact that President, Robinson did not wear a mantilla while meeting with the Pope. I find it quite startling that this still makes for comment in letters to the editor.
My experience is rather similar to Mrs O'Higgins O'Malley, who. had an audience with the Pope a number of years ago. I had the privilege of being received by him in March 1995. It never even occurred to me to wear a mantilla!
I believe I would be regarded as a committed Catholic, a frequent Mass attender. It must be at least 25 years since it was necessary, to cover one's head when entering church to attend the Eucharist. - Yours, etc.,
