Sir, - I take it from Father O'Hanlon's scathing letter about your President (April 8th) that he will not be rushing to endorse her application as Commissioner for Human Rights when she leaves her high office at the end of this year.
After all. if the Head of State of an openly acknowledged, economically booming country does not know how to dress to meet the Head of State of, reputedly, one of the most powerful States in the world, what chance has she of succeeding in being acknowledged even to speak, never mind gain, a basic human right for anyone?
Thank goodness it was Jesus Christ who said "How happy are the poor in spirit; theirs is the kingdom of Heaven" and not some of us mere mortals who, obviously, have "much greater" things on our minds. - Yours, etc.,
Aghaboe,
Portlaoise,
Co Laois.
