Madam, - Am I alone in being thoroughly fed up at being lectured on our obligations to Africa and the developing world by wealthy pop stars?
All my life since my schooldays I have been contributing to a multitude of African charities, most of them church-run. But nothing seems to improve.
One African dictator after another seizes power and treats their country like a personal piggy bank. We regularly see on our television screens horrific pictures of civilian suffering while armed men drive around in four- wheel drive vehicles.
There appears to be no shortage of money to buy guns and weaponry.
Perhaps the leaders of these countries should spend their scarce resources on health and education.
In the meantime, perhaps those wealthy pop stars should continue to do what they do best - making themselves richer by the day - and stop trying to give the rest of us a guilt complex about something over which we have no control. - Yours, etc., BRENDAN HORISK,
Olde Forge Manor,
