Madam, – The Irish Byron Society, which meets, at least once monthly, at the United Arts Club, 3, Upper Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin, 2, consistently promotes and celebrates the life and works of Thomas Moore. Lectures on Moore have been given by our members at International Byron Society conferences over many years at venues as diverse as Ryukoku university in Kyoto, Notre Dame university in Paris and the University of Moncton in Canada.
In April, society members travel to Newstead Abbey, the ancestral home of Lord Byron, where a film will be shown and a lecture given on Moore and his relationship with Lord Byron. In September, society members will visit Moore’s monument in the vale of Avoca, the “Meeting of the Waters”, where our president, Irish poet, Rosemarie Rowley will lay a wreath in his memory.
Apart from Moore, the Irish Byron Society continually celebrates Irish poets, most recently, Michael Hartnett, Louis MacNeice and James Simmons. – Is mise,
