Sir, - I read with considerable interest the article (The Irish Times, August 29th) on illegal radio broadcasting in the Republic. Although appalled, I was not surprised at the Government's failure to prosecute these so-called pirate stations despite the "tough" legislation in existence. According to the article, numerous unlicensed stations transmit over the airwaves with impunity.
I wonder how long it would take the authorities to come knocking on my door if I allowed my television receiving licence to expire? I guess this just goes to prove the biblical adage: 'Tis better to transmit than to receive! - Yours, etc., Edward D. Rafferty,
