A chara, - Deirdre McKiernan Hetzler (November 23rd) appears to be under the impression that the removal of the compulsory Shannon stopover will mean the end of transatlantic flights into the west of Ireland. In reality, flights will be maintained as long as there is a market for them.
Having compulsory flights into Shannon is the Irish equivalent of every second flight to the US being forced to stop in, for example, Knoxville, Tennessee, before proceeding to its final destination.
