Madam, - Fr Peter McVerry of the Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice and Eamon Timmins of Age Action Ireland both argue (September 21st) that removing stamp duty would reduce the Government's ability to fund numerous noble causes. They are undoubtedly right.
But why do I never hear calls from the same quarters for the country to save money, for example, by rationalising public sector administration? Where are the ethical objectors to the waste of money that was benchmarking? Why are only tax cuts the subject of such moral reproach? - Yours, etc,
