Sir, - The dizzy heights of the high moral ground have obviously impaired Phil Hogan's memory (July 15th). The questions that he put in his article can be very easily put to him personally, to his leader and his party.

When Ben Dunne was bankrolling Fine Gael did Mr Hogan ever query the reasons for this? Has Mr Hogan ever asked his party colleagues,

Messrs Yeates and Noonan (who both received substantial personal donations from Mr Dunne) about their decision-making record in

Government? And, if Paul McGrath is to be believed, Michael Lowry tried to intimidate Fine Gael TDs into following the Dunne line in order to keep Ben Dunne happy. Did this happen to more than one Fine

Yes, there are questions to be asked about the whole Dunne/

Haughey affair. But when Fine Gael politicians try to use the affair as a stick to beat Bertie Ahern, they are showing themselves to be very bad losers.

Messrs Bruton, Hogan et al should put their own house in order before lecturing others on the quality of theirs. - Yours, etc.,
