Sir, – Tim Bracken (August 13th) writes, “Imagine the international reaction and condemnation if some group marched down Fifth Avenue to commemorate the perpetrators of the 9/11 atrocity”. He then likens the commemorative march in Castlederg to such an abhorrence.
May I suggest that the march in Castlederg, rather than celebrating some event, atrocity or victory of one side over another, and very different to the coat-trailing sectarian victory parades of the Orange Order, was a dignified peaceful and lawful gathering to remember those who had fallen in Tyrone.
Would it not then, be more appropriate to liken it to the annual commemoration at Beal na Bláth, or Bodenstown, or any of the numerous annual commemorations held throughout this country to remember those who gave their lives for Irish freedom. – Yours, etc,
