Sir, - I wonder if many of your readers feel as I do about the way some of the younger generation and, especially presenters on our more juvenile-orientated radio stations, debase the patron saint of our country by calling his feast day by the derogatory term "Paddy's Day". To me it sounds as if we are celebrating the big day of the Irish navvy in England.
I have never heard an Englishman refer to his national day as Georgie's Day or the Scots and Welsh talk about Andy's Day and Davie's Day.
Our Patron Saint is St Patrick and, as such, he is entitled to have his name respected, given the eminence and dignity of his place in our history. - Yours, etc., Terry Crawford,
Offington Lawn, Sutton, Dublin 13.
