Madam, – The Trinity College Dublin study on the health, wealth and lifestyle of people aged over 50 (Home News, May 10th) only confirms what is clearly obvious – that the recession has disproportionately affected those who are not in this age cohort. The inequalities of wealth and financial freedom between generations in Ireland today is a growing source of resentment and anger for younger people, and rightly so.

Almost all of the senior bankers, academics, civil servants, professionals, journalists, judges, businessmen and politicians who are responsible for destroying our economy, by either commission or omission, are over 50 years of age.

No emigration, negative equity or unemployment for these heroic workers of the Republic.

Ireland is indeed now a country fit for old men; perhaps a country fit only for old men. – Yours, etc,
