Madam, – It’s inspiring to read (Home News, March 16th) that we have appointed a Cultural Ambassador for Ireland. As Gabriel Byrne says, “Our culture is what defines us”.
Mr Byrne, like so many of our young Irish emigrants over the past 20 years, contributed much to the present recognition, and importance, of Irish people to the culture and economy of the US. At the same time, awakening a little pride, and, recognition of what we have to offer, apart from our expertise in shoring up banks and restoring public finances.
We have grown tired of fumbling “in the greasy till” and so once again there is a possibility of creating a different Ireland. Given half a chance, we can do it. – Yours, etc,
