On the waterfront

A chara, – You report that Clare Guinness, the recently appointed chief executive of Warrenpoint port, is the first female head of any port on the island ("Warrenpoint Port to invest £3m preparing for Brexit", Commercial Property, June 13th). While this is perfectly true for modern times, Kathleen Curran, who was Ireland's first female harbourmaster, was in charge of Galway port in the 1950s and was also secretary to the harbour board there. – Yours, etc,

HUGH ORAM,

Dublin 4.
