Sir, - The excellent article, We're on the road to nowhere, by Frank McDonald (Weekend July 14th), and Andrew O'Callaghan's letter (July 13th), in support of the anti-racist line adopted by your recent editorial, both highlight an important issue, namely that without proper feedback government cannot always be expected to address and rectify wrongs in our society.
In Frank McDonald's article, leading architect Seβn ╙ Laoire blames failures in the planning system on "the absence of discourse and leadership" and a "governmental system suffused by bureaucratic in-fighting and political clientelism".
Andrew O'Callaghan points out that the vast majority of people living here are not racist and urges us to stand up to racism and prejudice in all its forms.
Both emphasise the point that if we see something that seems to us to be wrong or inappropriate, we should speak out and do something about it! - Yours, etc.,
Gordon Milne, O'Brien's Bridge, Co Clare.
