A chara, – Regarding Clare County Council’s failure to sell a single Irish-language copy of their development plan (Home News, October 15th), surely the most cost-effective route for local authorities to take in this regard is for them to make these documents available to the public on the internet, where they can be downloaded for free – should there be a demand for them in future.
This would ensure that the Official Languages Act stipulations are complied with and save local authorities a considerable amount of money. – Is mise,

Madam, – I think the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs should be ashamed at the waste of public money in the pointless translation of documents into Irish. Clearly the Official Languages Act 2003 and the Irish Language Commissioner are nothing more than a crank’s charter for cranky Gaeilgeoirs. – Yours, etc,
