Madam, – I am amazed how sharp the EU institutions are when it comes to taking legal action in relation to turfcutting in Ireland, I do not doubt that there is some merit in their actions over bogs.

However, this is in stark contrast to them not recognising their own legislative responsibility in relation to the overall control of the Irish banking sector. I am inclined to agree with former taoiseach and EU Ambassador John Bruton in his criticism of the ECB for failing to curb the financial and economic time bomb that built up over the boom.

One way to ensure that we have proper regulatory control of the banking sector in the future is to transfer responsibility for the banks to Bord na Móna. – Yours, etc,
