Sir, - I recently spent a week in Roscommon Hospital. I was not confined to bed and was able to move about a little or just sit and watch. This gave me a clear insight into the working life of the doctor and nurse.
I found it amazing. We underestimate the energy and stamina required for this untiring and dedicated work. We know they are highly qualified, highly skilled people but they also have qualities that mean so much to the sick and infirm not found between the covers of a book. Their kind and reassuring manner means so much. They are very special people in our society and should be treated as such. - Yours, etc.
