Sir, - It is interesting to hear from the Minister for Finance that "national chaos" will ensue if the nurses' demands are met.
In the aftermath of huge tax frauds perpetrated on the State, what suitable words should be used for a situation whereby the principal finance officer of that same State has not publicly demanded the immediate payment of all tax due from the financial institutions, particularly AIB?
Phrases such as "it's a matter for the Revenue Commissioners", or - that old gem - "the law is there to be applied" sound a trifle weak compared with apocalyptic visions of national chaos.
Or perhaps, as with paying taxes, it is only the little people who can cause national chaos. - Yours, etc.,
