Madam, - As a temporary guest in Blackrock, Co Dublin, it struck me that the burglar alarms were going off with great regularity, but that, as far as I could see, nobody, including the police, paid any attention to these awful noises.
Even the insurance companies, which seem to demand these installations, will have to admit that the alarms are a pointless waste of money.
May I therefore suggest that the systems be tuned to sound like the bells of a carillon, ringing out musically, in order to cheer people up, instead of making them miserable and angry? - Yours, etc.,
