Sir, - I read Medb Ruane's review of Nothing Sacred (Weekend, February 14th) with much interest. She concluded by describing it as a cop-out. As a first episode, I found it quite promising.
After a diet of the iconoclastic clowning of Fr Ted, I found Fr Ray a refreshing antidote. He was idealistic, had a social conscience, was human and was trying to balance being true to himself and being true to the official Church. He is a credible picture of today's priest.
Well done, RTE for giving us a programme which, if it maintains its early promise, will be welcome, timely and positive. - Yours, etc.,
Bray, Co Wicklow.
