Sir, – This is a generation consumed by grief but one that is also united in solidarity for the values of their democracy.
These young people who were so needlessly killed had the courage to engage in politics, in shaping their own society, believing that another world is possible – one of peace, equality and social justice.
Above all, it is this belief that we must cherish, nurture and fight to safeguard against those who would seek to destroy it.
The burden of the challenges that lie ahead are immense for the AUF, the Norwegian Labour Party’s youth organisation, but they know they will not face it alone.
All of us who believe in social democracy, in an open and tolerant society, must recall what these young people believed in.
They are our brothers, our sisters, our comrades and our friends. We now stand together in solidarity and friendship through these dark days from which we will emerge with renewed strength, hope and more democracy. – Yours, etc,
