Sir, - I was aghast to read Michael MacCoisdealbh's letter expressing the wish that no one from Northern Ireland would seek the office of President. What does it say for the attitudes of the nation towards immigrants as a whole when there are those who use language such as "infiltrate" and "contain this occupation" to express their racist/regionalist views of those of us who hail from the North of the island? What does Mr MacCoisdealbh propose - Ireland for the Irish (26 counties) only?
Perhaps I will make him feel uneasy by saying that I myself am conspiring to infiltrate the Republic and occupy a corner of Dublin in the near future. - Yours, etc.,
Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh.
