Sir, - Once again Kevin Myers (An Irishman's Diary, November 20th) champions the vulnerable when he writes about Nora Wall and Pablo McCabe.
It is regrettable that he clouds the issue by asking rhetorical questions, such as "How many innocent people are in jail after evidence from quack counsellors?", and by making irresponsible statements about counselling without offering an iota of proof to substantiate his comments.
What a pity he cannot remain focused on his condemnation of injustice without striking out wildly and inflicting collateral damage on unconnected subjects - in this instance, the counselling profession.
Could I remind him, and reassure those who use counselling services, that there are accrediting bodies for counsellors in Ireland (for example, the Irish Association for Counselling and Therapy and the Irish Council for Psychotherapy) which maintain a very high level of professional standards for accredited counsellors. - Yours, etc.,
Ursula O'Farrrell, South Hill Park, Booterstown, Co Dublin.
