Madam, - Your report of September 22nd about the appalling treatment meted out by immigration officials to a visitor whose only offence appears to have been that he was so unwise as to have been Indian rather than European or perhaps American, much is made of the damage such incidents do to Ireland's tourist trade.
But what about simple justice? Even if Tourism Ireland wasn't trying to "develop new markets in the Asia-Pacific region", shouldn't we still be outraged by these bully-boy tactics from immigration officers?
Or does nothing matter unless it affects Ireland's ability to rake in euro from visitors who still believe outdated slogans like "Ireland of the Welcomes"? - Yours, etc,
ANN HIGGINS, Monterey, Massachusetts, USA.
