Sir, - This time Kevin Myers (March 31st) has gone beyond a joke. His rant on John Pilger is nothing short of disgraceful journalism dressed up in disyllabic and tri-syllabic words in an effort to give his article some gravitas. Mr Myers reminds me of my many immature, attention-seeking adolescent male students whose efforts to get attention in the classroom often drive me to suggest providing them with a playpen in the general assembly area so that we can give them as much attention as they obviously need.
Myers's badly though out, ill-advised and dangerous puerile rant is an insult to the thousands of people now being displaced and murdered in Central Europe in response to NATO's actions. If Kevin Myers is so in need of public attention, could we organise a playpen in St Stephen's Green for him? There he could scream, kick and shout for all he is worth without doing any real damage. It is the only solution for a man who suggests sticking a fork in John Pilger's "morally superior eye".
Mr Myers is not fit to clean John Pilger's boots. Is it professional jealousy of Pilger's intellectual approach to journalism that has driven Myers to this? The Irish Times is irresponsible to publish such tripe. - Yours, etc., Mary Ryan,
Haven View, Malahide, Co Dublin.
