Sir Mr Kevin Myers persists in asking the same old questions about the period in Irish history 1916-1921 and once again about Michael Collins (September 26th).
He conveniently forgets that these questions were answered several times in the letters page first, by J. P. Duggan. Lieut col (retd), in a letter titled "Pogroms of Protestants" (August 27th, 1995) in the War of Independence, extracts from his History of the Irish Army, pp 55-57, and concerning executions carried out by the West Cork Brigade of Protestants and Catholics in 1921.
Donal O'Carroll, Lieut-Col (retd), in a letter (August 8th 1996), invited Mr Myers to "set out his views on how Irish Independence might have been achieved by non violent means. In doing so he may, of course, make any reasonable assumptions". And again on August 26th Padraig O Cuanachalin in his letter "The Revision of History" put some very pertinent questions to Mr Myers concerning the War of Independence. None of these questions were answered.
I put some questions to Mr Myers in a letter (April 24th) when he used the phrase "The Elysium of the Republic", and in a subsequent letter concerning the Great War 1914-1918. He ignored these questions. Lately (September 11th) he blames all our woes and wars on "The Fall". Is he serious? Yours, etc.,
