Madam, - I enjoyed very much reading Arminta Wallace's Irishwoman's Diary on John Williams, surely the greatest composer of film music (February 2nd).
Your readers may be interested to know that Williams is on record as saying that his inspiration for writing film music in the first place was John Ford's The Quiet Man, and in particular Richard Farrelly's haunting Isle of Innisfree, skilfully arranged by Vic Young. Further details may be found in my book, Picture the Quiet Man (Appletree Press,Belfast, 2004). - Yours, etc,
DES MacHALE, Avonlea Court, Blackrock, Cork.
