JIM GOGARTY,
Madam, - Dominic Coyle writes (Business, January 6th) that motor premium rises in 2003 "will be more in line with the consumer price index rather than the draconian increases of recent years". My renewal premium, received last week is €1,423 compared with €643 last year. I have a full no claims bonus and there are no changes in driving circumstances or car since last year. - Yours, etc.,

... ... * ... * ... * ... ...
Madam, - With regard to Dominic Coyle's over-optimistic view that motor insurance premium rises in 2003 will be more in line with the consumer price index, I am filled with dread at the thought of what more rises are to come if they are in any way linked to the rise in my own premium. Despite lowering the sum insured to €3,000 for my six year-old Peugeot 406, two drivers' full no claim bonus, and no change in status since last renewal, our renewal cost is €1,002. Last year, the same car, valued at €6,348, cost €746.26 to insure. - Yours, etc.,
