Madam, - Cllr John Kenny (March 8th), having said Sinn Féin has a long road to travel before fully embracing democracy, goes on to display how far he himself has to travel. He would limit participation in parliamentary debate to those "who fully support the institutions of the State".
In a parliamentary democracy, all elected members have a right to participate in debate and legislation, whatever their attitude to the state. In addition, he would, in expelling Mr Morgan from the Dáil, disenfranchise those who voted for him. In his agitation, the councillor has revealed perhaps more than he intended about his own attitude to democracy.- Yours, etc,
DÓNALL Ó MEARÁIN, Sligo Road, Bundoran, Co Donegal.
