Madam, - I must protest in the strongest possible terms at your publication of a letter by Brendan Kelly (August 10th) under the heading "Outrage vented". Notwithstanding his sophistry and cunning efforts, it is abundantly clear what he is referring to. In consequence I find myself much more outraged than he; indeed I am cross and exceedingly annoyed.
He says he writes his letter "with a heavy heart" - but the Letters Editor of The Irish Times should be the one with the "heavy heart" as he, or she, is clearly a person of poor judgment, or worse.
Nobody will be fooled by the contemptible act of slipping the letter in at the bottom of the page. This entire business reeks of a long identified conspiracy involving the craven attempt by a well-known "inner circle" to undermine the natural and well-established order. I hope that Mr. Kelly will cease his ill-judged nonsense forthwith and that you, Madam, will stop facilitating the erosion of all that is good in Irish society. I shall call a public meeting at a well known city centre hotel if you perpetuate this nonsense by publishing any more letters on the subject.
- Yours, etc.
