Sir, - Both my bank manager and my accountant will attest that I know little about money.
Perhaps one of your more financially astute readers can explain an item in your financial page (April 16th).
According to the article, and I have no reason to disbelieve it, the Bank of Ireland has paid £600 million for the Bristol and West Building Society, which has assets of £8.6 billion. According to my calculator, this represents a 14.3.1 return on the Bank of Ireland's investment.
As a customer of that bank, did they not have a duty to inform me of this opportunity to increase my nest egg, rather than keeping it for themselves? Are there any more building societies for sale? Would they lend me the money to buy one? - Yours, etc.,
